Jeanette was trained in the art of fruit and vegetable carving in 1975 in Singapore by Japan's Akira Takashashi, who is recognized as one of the foremost culinary artists in the Far East. Learning these skills perpetuated an interest for cuisine style and an enthusiasm for enhancing food. A diploma in Vegetable Decoration, Stage I, led to further study and instruction at the Chinese Women's Association (C.W.A.) and ultimately, a teaching position with the association. Frequent fruit and vegetable art demonstrations were given throughout the city of Singapore.
Specialized study in the culinary field continued with Cordon Bleu style cooking classes at the Woking Adult Education Institute in Surrey, England during the early 1980's. Demonstrations teaching the techniques of the Far East art of vegetable carving were given to various groups in Surrey in addition to organizing group gourmet cooking classes.
Food decorating presentations in Houston included garnishing demonstrations and workshops for area garden clubs, civic associations, and church and women's groups. She has taught at the Cooking School at Rice Epicurian and has taught privately to individuals and groups.
Today, Jeanette creates culinary art designs and food garnishes for her personal special occasion entertaining.
