TRENDS REPORT - OVERVIEW
FALL 2007 - Real Clothes For Real Women

Fall 2007 fashions will be more sculptural and elegant than in recent seasons.

That's the prediction of David Wolfe, creative director and trend master at the Doneger Group, a New York retail consulting and buying office. In a fall presentation sponsored by the Houston chapter of Fashion Group International , Wolfe predicted a return to elegance. The comeback of tailoring, hosiery, gloves and ladylike handbags on the runways could signal the return of good taste in response to an abundance of bad taste. "Fashion," he said, "is always about action and reaction".

Marylou Luther , editor of the International Fashion Syndicate, also talks about the return to lady-like dressing. "When Vivienne Westwood and Roberto Cayalli show two of the most wearable collections of Fall 2007, you know that sagacity has replaced audacity. At least for the moment. When Betsey Johnson accessorizes her clothes with little white gloves, you know The New Propriety is at hand. And it's not just for the old folks."

David Wolfe says "Boomers are starting to turn 60, but they are sexy, fun and alive."

And at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, ladylike looks ruled the runways. At the Paris shows, designers seemed to echo American trends in showing a more ladylike look for fall.

So go get out your hat and gloves. Add a clutch and a coat. Maybe patterned stockings and pumps. Ladylike fashion is making a comeback.
